Subaru Corporation Ends Production and Sale of Industrial Products
Including General-Purpose Engines and Generators
Tokyo, October 2, 2017 - Subaru Corporation ceased production and sale of industrial products including general-purpose engines and generators with effect from September 30, 2017.
The company’s industrial products business operated for more than 60 years after its former Omiya Plant (then Omiya Fuji Industries Co., Ltd.) started producing the 540 cc M6 engine in 1951, earning a worldwide reputation for dependable power sources supporting livelihoods and lifestyles around the globe. It manufactured and sold a wide range of products, including general-purpose engines for construction, industrial, and agricultural equipment; high-performance engines for snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, and other vehicles; and finished goods such as generators and pumps.
On November 2, 2016, the company announced its decision to terminate its industrial products business in order to utilize management resources more effectively to enhance the competitiveness of its core automotive business in the aim of achieving sustainable growth in the future.
Ongoing after-sales service will be provided by Industrial Products Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Kitamoto, Saitama Prefecture; president: Kazuto Shimada), a Subaru Corporation affiliate.
By concentrating management resources on Subaru’s core automotive business, the company will further reinforce its business structure in the aim of substantially enhancing the Subaru brand and achieving even greater sustainable growth.
