Cafe Solterra Highlighting SUBARU’s BEV

In March 2024, SUBARU held Cafe Solterra, an in-house event organized by employee volunteers. The event sought for employees to experience the features of the Solterra, a battery electric vehicle (BEV), understand new ways of using BEV, and find hints to propose to customers. Through this event, SUBARU wants employees to experience firsthand the potential of the Solterra and to correctly understand SUBARU’s BEV. We also want employees to personalize the BEV experience and to deeply understand the appeal of BEV, in the hope that such experience will go a long way in improving our corporate culture and resolving social issues.
The Solterra comes equipped with a 100 VAC (1,500 W output) outlet—the same as a household outlet—meaning customers can even connect and use a home appliance from their vehicle.
For example, customers can use their Solterra to do the things they do everyday, such as boil water in a kettle to make coffee, cook simple meals, warm up with an electric blanket, or dry their hair with a hair dryer, no matter where they are. During the event, a toaster oven was plugged into a Solterra and used to bake a loaf of bread for four hours. Yet, the toaster oven only used up 10 km worth of electricity in terms of driving range*.

Since it can also serve as a mobile power source, we believe the Solterra can contribute to society in times of disaster by sharing electricity with those in need.
In this event, we made coffee and baked bread, which demonstrated that having a BEV can transform a person’s lifestyle. It also got everyone who attended thinking about how they would use a BEV in their own life.

In the pursuit of value creation for the coming BEV era, we will further evolve “Enjoyment and Peace of Mind” as the value that SUBARU provides in products, and remain committed to becoming even closer to our customers’ lives.
