FHI Celebrates 1000^th Production of Boeing 777 Center Wing Box

Tokyo, December 1, 2011 – Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) shipped its thousandth Boeing 777 center wing box to Boeing Commercial Airplanes (Boeing) on November 30th. Boeing is located in Seattle, Washington and headed by President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Albaugh. This memorable achievement was accomplished in 18 years and 4 months since the first shipment in July 1993.

FHI has participated in the Boeing 777 program since its developmental phase and is responsible for the development and manufacturing of the center wing box, the most vital part of the airplane that connects the main wings to fuselage, as well as the main landing gear door and the wing-to-body fairing.

Prior to shipping the thousandth center wing box, on November 25th, FHI held a ceremony at its Handa Plant (Handa, Aichi Prefecture) where the device is assembled. During the occasion, Boeing delivered a speech in which FHI received words of gratitude for its high quality products and prompt delivery.

Boeing 777 is a commercial aircraft which began development in 1990. Its class 3 passenger aircrafts are capable of transporting 301 to 368 passengers, whereas its freighters are equipped to carry 102 tons of cargo. According to Boeing, the thousandth FHI center wing box will be delivered to Emirates Airlines in March 2012.

FHI is also taking part in the development and manufacturing of the Boeing 787 center wing box. FHI will continue to build its reputation in the global aircraft industry by maintaining a positive relationship with Boeing and advancing its own technologies.
