Fuji Heavy Industries Joins Efforts to Design Next-Generation Regional Jet, MRJ
Four Engineers Dispatched to Mitsubishi Aircraft
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (Mitsubishi Aircraft) have reached an agreement under which FHI will dispatch engineers to Mitsubishi Aircraft in developing the next-generation regional jet, Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), Japan’s first jetliner.
Four leader-class engineers will be temporarily transferred to Mitsubishi Aircraft from FHI’s Aerospace Company. The engineers transferred to Mitsubishi Aircraft at its request, will be on secondment to Mitsubishi Aircraft for a period of about two years starting from today. All four engineers will join a group working in MRJ Structure Group of Engineering Department. With the expertise that they bring from having worked on aircraft development at FHI, they are expected to contribute to furthering the MRJ project.
The MRJ is a next-generation regional jet that will be based on cutting-edge development and manufacturing technology cultivated by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries during its many years engaged in the development and manufacture of both military and commercial aircraft. The MRJ is a family of 70- to 90-seat regional jets, which will offer both top-class operational economy and outstanding cabin comfort. The MRJ will also mark the first extensive use of composite materials in the main wings and empennage, feature a game-changing engine, and state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, which will significantly cut fuel consumption contributing to improved competitiveness and profitability for airlines. The MRJ will apply advanced mainline jet technology to create a new standard for next-generation regional jets. The first delivery of the aircraft is expected in 2013.
