-- Under a recent OEM agreement, the new Justy will be supplied by Daihatsu --
Tokyo, February 26, 2007 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), a global manufacturer of transportation and aerospace-related products and the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced its plan to introduce the all-new Justy as the next advancement in subcompact cars for the European market in the fall of 2007. The new model will be built by Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with FHI.
In response to an expanding demand for small vehicles in Europe, FHI has been enhancing its lineup of compact cars for the European market. The fuel-efficient Justy model will also contribute to the voluntary goals set by the European Union for reducing CO2 emissions. FHI entered into the OEM arrangement to further improve the Subaru lineup and fortify sales by taking advantage of a business alliance with Toyota Motor Corporation, the majority stakeholder in Daihatsu.
Based on the Daihatsu Boon, the new Subaru Justy will feature sleek, streamlined styling, convenience, and utility coupled with outstanding driving performance. Daihatsu will manufacture the new car at its Head (Ikeda) Plant in Osaka and plans to supply about 6,000 units annually to FHI.
