Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), a global manufacturer of transportation and aerospace-related products and the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced the introduction of the all-new Subaru Forester in Japan. The new Forester builds upon the "best of both worlds" crossover SUV approach. Enhancing the advantages of SUV characteristics and advantages of car characteristics is a basic nature of Forester.

Aiming to make the Forester a world-class, top-level vehicle in the crossover SUV category, Subaru has not only incorporated features of an SUV and a passenger car, but they have also pursued the idea of creating a vehicle that is maximally suited to every aspect of a user's transportation needs. Subaru has placed particular emphasis on four themes in the Forester's development: (i) to improve and heighten the fundamental performance features of smooth driving, optimal cornering, and reliable stopping; (ii) to realize the total safety performance of world top class; (iii) to further expand on easy-to-use features and ride comfort; and (iv) to design a vehicle with powerful yet sophisticated styling that masterfully represents the model's outstanding performance.

Fitted with Subaru's all-wheel drive (AWD) system and a horizontally opposed engine, the Forester family has been a popular crossover SUV in Japan and overseas since its debut in February 1997. The model is known globally for its reputation of stellar comfort and reliability. In anticipation of popular demand, FHI has set a monthly sales target of 3,000 units for the new Forester in Japan.
